Grass Gazer Citizen Scientists will be documenting flowering grasses around Brisbane to help with research undertaken by the QUT Allergy Research Group<\/a>. The project’s aim is to better understand the spatial and temporal distribution of grass pollen sources in Brisbane (grass pollen is a major outdoor allergen). Further background information<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n All observations of grass in South East Queensland can be included. This page<\/a> has more info about grasses and\u00a0a\u00a0guide to some of the common grasses in Brisbane (pdf).<\/a><\/span> Make observations using\u00a0 iNaturalist Australia<\/a>.\u00a0 Overview of steps:<\/span><\/p>\n 1. join iNaturalist Notes: The iNaturalist mobile App will automatically record basic observation details: photos, date, location, and will give a suggestion of identification.\u00a0 All observation of grasses in the area will automatically be included in the Grass Gazers project.<\/p>\n Before joining please read this overview of iNaturalist<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0and also the community guidelines for behaviour.<\/a>\u00a0There is also a quick (84 second) general video intro to iNaturalist<\/a>. <\/p>\nWhat Grass Gazers Citizen Scientists are documenting<\/h3>\n
The most useful observations of flowering grasses will include date, location, grass species,\u00a0and four other details we have called the GG_FAHM<\/strong>\u00a0observational fields. More about the GG_FAHM fields (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\nHow to make an observation<\/h3>\n
2. make iNaturalist observations of flowering grasses (plants in the Poaceae family), within the South East QLD area (turn location ON or you can add GPS coordinates manually)
3. add the four GG_FAHM<\/strong> details to your grass observations<\/p>\nStep 1: How to join iNaturalist and download the iNaturalist App onto your mobile device.\u00a0\u00a0
